Hinicio Welcomes Hans Kulenkampff as New CEO, Steering the Company Towards a Sustainable Hydrogen Future

Hinicio is proud to announce the appointment of Hans Kulenkampff as our new CEO, marking a significant milestone in our mission to advance the decarbonization of hard-to-abate sectors worldwide.

Hans brings extensive experience, vision, and a proven track record of success. Since joining Hinicio in 2020, he has played a central role in the company’s growth, first by establishing our operations in Chile and then expanding our presence across Latin America. His leadership has driven transformative initiatives, including the development of our Systems Engineering capabilities and the launch of our Digital Services. These advancements have been instrumental in accelerating our global expansion and fostering innovation across the hydrogen ecosystem.

With a strong background in chemical engineering and deep expertise in the hydrogen ecosystem, he has developed and led groundbreaking projects across mobility, industry, and energy sectors. His accomplishments include earning multiple industry awards since 2022, and being recognized as one of Chile’s Top 100 Young Leaders —a prestigious acknowledgment of his influence and expertise.

Before joining Hinicio, Hans held key positions at Tractebel ENGIE, where he spearheaded smart energy system initiatives. In 2018, he founded the Chilean Hydrogen Association (H2 Chile), serving as chairman until 2021, demonstrating his commitment to fostering industry collaboration and advocacy. His extensive international experience make him exceptionally equipped to lead Hinicio into its next chapter of growth.

The appointment of Hans as CEO follows his progression within Hinicio, where he started as Head of Latin America before being appointed Chief Operating Officer in 2024. His promotion to CEO early in 2025 is a reflection of his visionary leadership and deep understanding of the industry’s evolving needs.

Patrick Maio, Hinicio’s Founder and now Chairman, expressed his confidence in Hans’ leadership during the announcement:

This journey as an entrepreneur and CEO of Hinicio started in March 2006. Looking back, I feel immense pride in what we have built—expanding across four continents, supporting over 200 companies, and delivering more than 900 projects in 45 countries. As most entrepreneurs know, what makes us successful in the past does not always guarantee future success. The ingredients of leadership evolve as organizations evolve, and I firmly believe that Hans has the vision and determination to take Hinicio to the next level. Now is his time to lead, and I am confident that he will propel Hinicio forward with excellence and innovation.”

Reflecting on his appointment, Hans Kulenkampff shared:

“I am deeply honored and energized by the opportunity to lead Hinicio into this exciting new chapter. Our success is built on the dedication, talent, and passion of every team member. I am inspired by the remarkable work we do every day and look forward to continuing this journey together, driving innovation and delivering impactful solutions for our clients and partners.”

This transition comes at a pivotal time as Hinicio strengthens its position as a leader in the hydrogen economy. Having joined Vulcain Engineering Group in 2022, Hinicio is now positioned to support corporate clients and project developers across the entire project lifecycle—from early-stage business strategy and engineering to commissioning. Hans’ leadership will be instrumental in advancing this mission.

We look forward to an exciting new chapter for Hinicio under Hans’ guidance. His appointment represents a renewed commitment to driving impactful results, fostering collaboration, and accelerating the transition to a cleaner, more sustainable hydrogen future.
