Zero-carbon bunker fuel production, storage, and export in four ports in Colombia

Context

Hinicio conducted several pre-feasibility studies on potential port locations in Colombia, evaluating them from technical, safety/social, regulatory, financial, and economic perspectives.

Proyect Overview

Description

The study involved developing a benchmark for multiple port locations and projects related to zero-carbon production, storage, supply, and export. It also included a hierarchical multicriteria analysis to evaluate nine potential ports in Colombia, ranking them based on qualitative and quantitative criteria. Additionally, a roadmap was created to outline how the top three port locations could be developed into bankable pilot investment projects.

Hinicio added value

  • Extensive experience in hydrogen Power-to-X projects, including modeling various system configurations for domestic demand, export markets, and HUBs, with a focus on port locations.
  • A strong track record of successful hydrogen projects in Colombia, which accelerates the process of selecting the best port locations for developing bankable projects in the short to medium term.
  • Service: Project Development Assistance
  • Region: Latin America
  • Country: Colombia

Economic, social and environmental impact

The selection of the three port locations will lead to the development of pilot investment projects in Colombia, positioning them as first movers in the country’s energy transition agenda. The pre-feasibility analysis will also play a crucial role in the National Planning Department’s mission to enhance port infrastructure, thereby facilitating the energy transition and the growth of the renewable hydrogen economy.
